Joyce
started out singing lead in the chorus, eventually becoming a
co-section leader. She switched to bass at one point and
really loved it. She became the bass section leader the summer
of 2003. Her first quartet was “Colours” in which she sang
with Denise. After “Colours” dissolved, she was very happy
when Jamie called and asked her to sing with a newly forming
quartet. She loves singing with Fire & Ice, who have committed
ten years to each other and to their quartet.
Joyce Glover (Bass)
This Ohio girl came into this world as a twin. Music was a big part of life for the twins as well as the entire family, and Joyce continued with her musical training through college. She graduated from Youngstown State with a degree in Music Education and briefly taught elementary school music before starting a family. Joyce found Sweet Adelines through a Mary Kay facial. When the consultant, Anita, mentioned that she sang in a barbershop chorus, Joyce wanted to know when and where to join. Ten days later, in October, 1994, she joined the first “Ready, Set, Grow” class of the Virginia Coast Chorus. Denise, the tenor of Fire & Ice, was in the very same class.

High School Sweethearts
Joyce has been married to her high school sweetheart, Grey, for 31 years and they have three children, Meredith, Grey, Jr. and Brian. Meredith has given them two beautiful grandchildren; David Grey and Shelby Lynn and Joyce is pleased to spend every day with these two treasures. It was Grey’s Navy career of 28 years that brought their family to the Virginia Beach area. She just wishes it hadn’t taken her so long to find barbershop!
